 CONVERTIBLE BULK TRAY MOLD

A Consumer Electronics manufacturer needed a molding solution to make bulk tray packaging at a lower cost. The traditional method for manufacturing is to produce two molds. One mold for the top and bottom foam and another mold to produce the protective foam between the units. The D8-engineered solution was to make a mold with a convertible half to allow the molding of both parts in the same mold with a simple change of mold geometry. In addition to the savings in tooling cost, the efficiency of the single convertible mold formed the foam parts in less time than the two-mold set used in the past.
